Red Dead Redemption is one of the best games ever made, if not Thee. It is the strongest all around game I have ever played; it gets very high marks in every critical category.
RDR is so far ahead of its time, that if it came out today, it wouldn't change anything in regards to how highly acclaimed and beloved it is. It did come out today, actually. I haven't played RDR2 or seen more than a few trailers, but I can tell that it's not bringing much new to the table besides new story and a different map.
RDR is a revolutionary game, and 8 years is not enough to come close to achieving that mark again. I wasn't surprised to hear that a new RDR was coming out, but my stomach did roll its eyes a bit when I saw the commercial. This console generation isn't mature enough yet to make this game stand out on any technical level. I understand that R* can't work 15 years on one game, but I think that's about what it would take for another game as groundbreaking as RDR to come out of their studios. It was that damn good. I don't expect much from RDR2, and haven't bought it yet mostly becus I didn't bring my Xbox with me when I moved. I will want to play it eventually, I imagine, as this genre tickles my innards.
The best thing about RDR by far was the story. It's a story that I don't think has ever been done in a video game before, and Rockstar fuckin' nailed it. It's the story of the federalization of western America after the turn of the 20th century, and it depicts every little minute detail of how every society eventually gets absorbed and beaten down again and again before it finally submits to the new world and its grand ideals. The old ways die, and he who is unwilling to appreciate the new systems of materialization, or of thought, will be removed.
Ideas from distant lands that are fully reasonable ideas in their respective lands, are always brought to nations to whom the ideas brought over will cause some degree of ruin. These ideas will usually help the nations as soon as their civilizations grows and adapts, but at first it will cause not self-inflicted hardship and misery. That is life.

This was a severely disappointing thread. You haven't even played the new one and you're making threads?
"I can tell its not bringing much to the table"
You're worse than the hype people. Either buy the game or shut the fuck up and come back to 2010 with the rest of us :(
