Speed Reading - Fact or Myth?

Has anyone here actually been successful at any attempt at so-called 'speed reading'?

It would be pretty dope if it's legit, but I'm skeptical as fuck.

It just seems like recall will always be low if you aren't mentally enunciating each word.

I hope to be convinced otherwise, though.

    Any proponents?

You can definitely read faster than you can listen to something, but if you read too fast just sort of phase out from information overload.

You probably can remember stuff straight after, but I doubt it leaves much of a lasting impression. The mind only operates so fast.

I can do it (to an extent) if I stop drinking and taking drugs for a while. Not like you see on TV though, maybe three pages per minute max.

Or at least, I could last time I quit drinking and doing drugs for a while, which was MAYBE 2011

Malice claimed to be able to do it
