This was my soccer coach in grade school. He was German and a chef.
SOCCER CLUB HEAD FACES SEX CHARGES

The head of a soccer club who has been praised for setting up one of the most successful youth programs in the country was charged Friday with four counts of sodomy involving two boys under 14.
The suspect, Siegbert G. Muthofer, already was on probation for a previous sex offense involving a 13-year-old boy.
Muthofer runs the Voyagers Soccer Club, U.S.A., and is executive chef for Food Service Management Inc. of St. Louis. He was the subject of a glowing profile in the May issue of St. Louis Magazine.
George R. ''Buzz'' Westfall, the St. Louis County prosecutor, said a county grand jury indicted Muthofer on three counts of sodomy May 16 and on a fourth count May 23.
''The reason for the delay in having him arrested until today is because the boys had not made up their minds to prosecute,'' Westfall said.
Westfall said the alleged attacks involved two boys who were members of Muthofer`s soccer squads. The attacks are alleged to have occurred in May and June of 1982 in Muthofer`s home.
The prosecutor said Muthofer was arrested just as the three-year statute of limitations for prosecuting such crimes was about to elapse.
Westfall said Muthofer is on probation on a misdemeanor offense for the unlawful touching of a 13-year-old boy in August, 1983. He pleaded guilty on June 15, 1984, and received a suspended sentence and two years` probation.
As part of the probation, Westfall said Muthofer was ordered to receive professional counseling and prohibited from having coaching activities with younger boys.
Westfall said Muthofer was not punished more severely for the first offense because several parents had asked him to prosecute gently and because ''at the time, we only knew about one offense. And it was his word against a 13-year-old boy`s.
''There were a lot of parents who did not believe the victim a year ago, and I hope now they realize he was telling the truth. I am convinced there has been a pattern and history of this sort of conduct over the years and there are other victims in the St. Louis area.''
Muthofer, a native of Germany, founded the soccer club 14 years ago. It has gained a national reputation as one of the most successful such programs in the country. Many of his players win college soccer scholarships.
''His teams were scheduled to leave for a European soccer tournament Sunday,'' Westfall said. ''As far as I am concerned, Mr. Muthofer is not leaving the state, let alone the country.''
