I honestly can't remember how to use PGP/GPG.

The apps I installed (Kleopatra, etc) are so absolutely rubbish it's hard to believe.

I have used GPG to message vendors on Wall Street Market on darknet. But I don't think I can generate a new public key using my old private key, so fuck even uploading my public key.

Feature add: signature boilerplate is now parsed out of messages for display, signed messages will appear with a lock next to them so pages don't stretch out with signatures. Also important because most bbcode breaks signature verification (the content you select on your screen which is the selectable part of the DOM produced by the HTML produced by the bbcode that was authored differs from what was signed) so this fixes that. Still experimental, bug reports or usability enhancements welcome.

The OSX integration from the GPG suite is pretty good and it makes all the difference. The story is good on linux too but it took a lot of monkeying around for me to get to an actually usable setup which probably mean's it's just a poor user experience for most people. No idea what windows is like, but I'd believe it's not great. For whatever reason crypto historically has had garbage, even at the API level, I know not why.

I am too technologically retarded to use this feature, but good work, Lanny. ☺

You're not though! Go read those tutorials in OP, don't just give up your rights because you're lazy. Even if you don't care about it now, doing key exchange will be valuable if you ever do decide that you need verifiable or secure communication in the future.

Remember how each time we switch sites people claimed to be other people and nobody knows who is who for a while? Wouldn't have been a problem if we had exchanged keys in the past.

Also I'm thinking about rigging up an auth system tied to PGP keys. That way I could distribute a scrubbed version of the database publicly that would allow others to set it up and reestablish account ownership if I ever had to take the site down suddenly. No risk of someone compromising accounts by holding that database because the auth token (private keys) wouldn't be there.

The possibilities are endless HTS, ENDLESS!

No, keys are on the user pages. That's the signature, which is what you verify using the key.

Has anyone ever had a strange premonition about Lanny?

'He' reminds me of the pimply-faced, little, skinny, bespectacled, nerd at the back of the class wearing the plaid button-down with the pocket-protector.

You know the type, we all had at least one in first year. The one who never asked any questions or looked anyone in the eye and just kept keying when a question was asked. The one that seemed destined to be a computer whiz. The one who had gold fish for pets and wore argyl socks with sandals and tweed trousers.

    Lanny,
Why would you want all NiS members to give all of you their private key? And, please, name one good reason why any information on NiS needs to be encrypted? When any member on here wants to score drugs, get in odds on games, or make arrangements with their pimps already exist -- and being a remote never stopped anyone from f'ing up other member's online chit.

    What semester you in, Lan?
