The Isolation of Man

    I was looking at this video of a vole and a mouse hanging out:



    Just so you know, a vole and a mouse are completely unrelated creatures. As you know, a vole is a flightless bird and a mouse is an amphibian.

    However, they can get along just fine. A step further, we can clearly see totally unrelated species like dogs and cates getting along. Or birbs and cates getting along. Or burbs and horses.

    Now, we can understand a lot about these creatures and even be friendly with them (certainly from a scientific level, we know more about them than themselves).

    But experientially, we are so far removed from our animal relatives that I wonder if we have not isolated ourselves in important ways. An overwhelming majority of animals still live in the state of the wild. So when two animals come together, they share a camaraderie greater than any of us might ever know, by default.
