XOR operation

   I've been studying Cryptography been a while and I just made a reflection: is there any Mathematical operation as worth-vailing as XOR in cryptosystems?

   What do you mean by worth-vailing?
   
   There any many information preserving operations you can employ, XOR is considered "fundamental" not so much because it has unique properties but because it's small and fast to implement directly in circuitry and is one of the lowest cost operations on modern CPU architectures.
