Hardware Nerds?

I have been lurking for awhile. Watching. Listening. I don't see anything in this forum related to hardware whatsoever. Do people not give a shit about it or are they of the mindset of "if it fails, I will just buy new"? It would be nice to have some legit hardware discussion here, but I have no idea if I am the ONLY ONE or if there is someone else out there into the hardware side as I am........

I used to have a computer that would overheat. Ended up opening the tower and there was so much dust on the fan. Took some air duster (and no, I did not huff it. It actually had an additive to prevent that) to it and it worked extremely well from then on.

Air dust your tower every now and again!

I bet he has. Computer illiterate people deserve to have their porn stash found by tech people.

One time, I borrowed my friends HD and found all his porn. This was when we were still teenagers, though. Nigga got a kid with prospects now.

My skills are definitely more on the software side, I'm generally content with working with abstract machines. Although what I have seen of hardware design has been interesting, even if I wouldn't want the job of a hardware designer in a million years.

What are your interests? Mostly debugging/maintenance of hardware or more design elements?

Yeah, go into a little more detail as to what you're interested in.

I do some arduino programming off and on, resolder connectors every now and then instead of buying new power adapters and the like but nothing really in-depth.

I prefer the troubleshooting/repair end. The types of things I work with on any given day vary wildly from very easy to quite difficult. Some examples of easy ones would be typical common hardware failure for personal computers. Things like power supplies, RAM, hard drives, etc. Those are all pretty straightforward in diagnosis and are essentially a "just replace it" type of repair. Other examples might be iPhone/Android smartphone screen replacements, battery replacements for "non removable battery" type phones, etc. I literally do this sort of stuff every day.

Some more difficult ones would be component/board-level repairs. U2401/U2402 iPhone 6 Plus Touch IC replacement for "Touch Disease fault", microUSB charging port replacement (or worse, those fucking iPad Air Lightning dock connector ribbon cables that are soldered to the UNDERSIDE of the logic board that you have to totally remove to get to.) GPU reballing and reflow on a variety of Macbook Pros and pretty much every single HP laptop ever made in the history of time, and what I seem to be doing a lot of lately, HDTV repair which isn't always as simple as "just swap the whole board out!". Diagnosing faulty capacitors, diodes, resistors, etc. Plasmas add another level of complexity with their additional boards to produce the matrix which is your display (X-SUS, YSUS, Y-MAIN, etc) Or on LED TVs, maybe the LED backlight strips are burned out so disassembling the display panel to get to them and figure out which LEDs have failed and all of that. It's fun for me.

I enjoy the component-level repairs the most because they're the most challenging.

I have been meaning to get an arduino to play with. It seems like it could come in handy for me especially when working with HDTVs.
