Captain Falcon's Mental Self-Improvement Dump Thread

  1. #1
Similar to Aldra's conflict shitpile thread, I will be dumping pastes of stuff that I find to be important, thoughtful and/or useful readings and other content pertaining to self improvement on a mental level. You might find these useful if you want to be a smarter or better person.

Please stay on topic, as this thread has been posted in a topical forum.

    Dump 1:

    General Semantics

Considered by many to be pseudoscience, and it might well be, but it has had definite positive results for me in terms of how I think and organized my thoughts

    E-Prime (English Prime):

Closely tied to, and an integral part of, General Semantics. E Prime is about the virtues of simply omitting "to be" verbs from your thought processeas.

This is how I try to map out all my thoughts before I condense them with the help of to be verbs. I recognize the value in using to be as well.

Note that E Prime isn't meant to replace normal speech or writing, it's just a great way to analyse and unpackaged your thoughts.

Tangentially related, this essay by Chuck P. was incredibly helpful for my writing, as a non-native English speaker who learnt it as a second language.

Tl;Dr: remove "thought" verbs from your writing and unpack those thoughts-actions into their constituent considerations.
