Obama was commuting sentences of non violent drug offenders for the most part. People that had already served appropriate time. Ya know, part of the criminal justice reform that Trump supposedly stands behind now.
Trump is pardoning people he thinks were given politically motivated prison terms for crimes he is most likely guilty of himself.
At least Trump is following tradition and doing so on his way out of office lol -

Many people caught with acid were charged with large scale trafficking for just a handful of hits because of how they weighed the paper or sugarcube together. Obama pardoned many of these guys in jail for 30+ years over ten hits of acid.
On the flip side, if you're dealing fentanyl you deserve to fucking rot. Non-violent crime my ass. -
