Or, at least, to me that's what nostalgia is.
Maybe the two of us use the term in a way that differs from the rest of society.
For me, nostalgia is a time I want to genuinely return to. -

you want to live in a particular lifestyle
It's like, do you want a room decorated to your liking or would you like to live in a bare and empty dwelling that looks like a jail cell.
Life today could easily be like 2006 if people would just go back to living like they did
Nostalgia is more like me wanting to be able to walk into a best buy and experience playing the DS for the first time -

Why 2006?
I mean, I enjoyed my own 2006, but also my 2010 and my 2017.
Preference for a particular year usually comes from one's own specific experiences.
You're trying to generalize it to be the best year for everyone. -
