In literary tradition, the RIVER has often been used as a metaphor for a divide or crossing-over point. Before the advent of STEAM BOATS, the fording of a river was a risky and dangerous undertaking. So the river not only alludes to nature and the passage of time, but is a very real demarcation between where one is and where one could be.Between ones present situation and some further goal.

You know, I realize that the finitude of life is only significant if finite things are important to you at all. And they are. They are the only things that are important.

What may seem like conflict at one level of magnification is actually harmony at a higher level. Could it possibly be that we - with all our problems, conflicts, neuroses, sicknesses, political outrages, and wars - are actually in a state of harmony?

Nah. Harmony is in the ear of the beholder. No beholder, no harmony. In fact most conflict is all about imposing your definition of harmony on someone else who disagrees.

Conflict on one level is harmony on another.
