   Because life is so boring. In the 1800s you could homestead on 500 acres of land provided for free by the government. You could sail a ship around the world and pretty much do anything you can dream of.
   
   In this globalized world you need paperwork and passports, documents and there are 10 billion laws stopping you from even crossing the street.
   
   Life is boring but drugs take away the boredom which is why so many people are dying because they would rather be high and dead than live one sober day in boring doldrums world
