I know few people left in my home area that I was sort of friends with but not enough to ask them if I can come work for them (assuming they owned a business that payed well)
The better friends I had told me to leave California a few decades back. they cashed in if they owned property and moved to Arizona and Utah mainly. a few to Chicago (Why I don't know) and others to Texas and some of them died.
