If you find word substitution and assume it's word substitution you can never crack it and get the true meaning from it, just know that parties are communicating secretly. -

Electronic and digital encryption is obvious. You can tell its encrypted even if you can't crack it. And governments can given enough time.
It is useful for banking, military comms and iff systems.
It is not good for staying hidden.
