I got a call from my daughter last night to tell me about an old grade school friend who's mother died yesterday. I'm not sure exactly how old she was but probably only 60 or so. I used to have her daughter come over and have sleepovers, etc. She often came over herself and we were good friends. She obviously had the hots for me but I always kept that at arms length because she had a drinking problem and several times arrived with a six pack.
I did take her to a company Christmas party with a sit down dinner and free drinks. At one point she left to go to the bathroom. When she hadn't returned in a while, I went looking for her and found her in the bar where she had bought her own drink.
She ended up getting married and apparently continued abusing alcohol. She ended up in the hospital with the DT's about ten years ago. She also lost custody of her three children to her ex who lives on the west coast.
Just a note on your probable future should you continue on your path.

Being sober blows, life seems so dull and meaningless. Like what is the endgame of everything we do? just to relax and stare at walls or a screen? doing the same things and seeing the same sights for the rest of my life? What happens if that gets old? move on to the next thing that will eventually get old, rinse and repeat. Fuck when did i stop knowing how to live in the moment...
