How can you read when highly fucked up?

Have you ever noticed how crazy the capacity for reading in adults is? You can be so fucked up that you can't remember you own birthday but you can still read these bizarre glyphs on the screen. Even when you have double vision you can still draw forth meaning from them. There is no genetic structure that disposes one towards understanding the language, this incredible ability to read when you can barely even see, to read without want to, the epochally null translation form visual field to meaning is unsurpassable. So engrained is the written language that it's nearly impossible to put aside. But how can such fundamental elements of human consciousness be emergent? We didn't have this response 10K years ago. It's not genetic but learned, social reform as instilled us with these powers and we have no evolutionary preparation for them. The very fabric of our psyche is built out this language, and yet it's not ours by birth.

Technology is a useful thing. Especially, those niggas that invented autocorrect. Imagine what they'll invent next to compensate for our shortcomings...

Lol one time I was high as balls on MXE and I decided to look at my calculus homework I was doing at the time and see if I could figure it out in that state and it just looked like straight up Egyptian heiroglyphics. No meaning whatsoever. It looked really cool though so I ended up staring at it for a good 10 minutes.

    I miss MXE.

My dad told me this while driving drunk and swerving, he said "If you are driving and there are way to many lines on the road just close one eye son" and he kept repeating the last part in a mystical voice like an elder passing down wisdom.

You ever look into Julian Jaynes theory on consciousness? Parts of it are outdated but it's still a great work full of interesting ideas and connections and he basically claimed what you said above, that modern human consciousness as we know it today is sort of built out of language and metaphor. He claims 10 k years ago the humans mind was very different, and that consciousness as we know it developed at the same time as the written word.

Learning language changes the way parts of your brain develop. Children who grow up outside of normal society or who are extremely neglected and don't learn language have physically different brains and after a certain age it becomes impossible for them to ever develop normally. This clearly affects their mind as well.

I remember trying to read lovecraft on acid; I was doing fine until I realised I'd been reading the same paragraph over and over again for the last half hour, then everything got tentacley

Remember, most literate people can tell what a paragraph says even if all the words are scrambled. So, in turn if your brain is scrambled and the words are correct then it would probably be about the same.
