On a historic day for America …
In a matter of hours, Donald Trump faces an impeachment vote in the House. Today’s vote marks the latest twist in one of the most turbulent presidencies in US history. If the House votes to impeach him, he'll be only the third president in history to face this sanction.
But the challenges to American democracy do not end today. Over the last three years, much of what we hold dear has been threatened – democracy, civility, truth. This US administration is establishing new norms of behaviour. Anger and cruelty disfigure public discourse and lying is commonplace.
