Bow tuning
-
2019-12-16 at 3:21 PM UTCI've been tuning a bow for the rut cause I have nothing to do.
I took everything off the string except the dloop and according to a calculator I am getting:
275fps off a 460gn arrow @ 65# with the option to drop down to 60# or crank it to 70#.
At 65# I'm 77ftlbs of kinetic energy.
The calculator says this should be enough for grizzly bear or water buffalo.
I'm also gonna get new strings with speed nocks and a new cable guide. From this I'm expecting another 10-15fps. After this is done I'm gonna buy a chronograph and check the speed of it for real.
To get all the weight off the string, I went with a peepless sighting system, I chose the anchor sight. No string silencers/cat whiskers. I am assuming the speed nocks will quieten the shot and eliminate vibrations. I am using a whisker biscuit.
Doea anyone here like hunting or organic meat? -
2019-12-16 at 3:23 PM UTCI think this belongs in flora and fauna.

2019-12-16 at 6:53 PM UTCmy ex taught how me to bow shoot. It's pretty fun
Whenever I've considered it I've figured that the tags and equipment I don't have would be too much and I don't really know what I'm doing anyway. I'd tag along with someone if I was gonna do it rather than try to self teach. -

You shouldn't really use someone else's bow unless you have the same draw length and strength. It's usually strung for an individual and you'll either be unable to shoot or risk damaging yourself/the bow. -
2019-12-17 at 3:45 AM UTCBow hunting kills rifle hunting.
I can't believe this is not the most popular form of hunting. Most people don't hunt, and those that do, most use a gun.
I'm not talking about tree stand hunters, if you could even call that hunting, but walk and stalk hunting.
With a rifle you can sit on a hill 200yd from a river and shoot something that comes for a drink and call yourself a good shot and get some nice meat.
That's not hunting.
With a tree stand you hide in a tree all day, out of sight, and take something, often over bait.
Also not hunting.
Walk and stalk with a bow, well, you test your capacity as a human being. You test your fitness to walk up and down hills through thick brush, and then you gotta get really close to take that shot.
There is nothing like it. It is hunting. All other forms of hunting are not hunting. Anything taken from more than 70yds is not hunting. You don't need skill for this. You don't need to outwit your prey. You don't need to be one with nature and sneak around hidden like a fox.
Seriously it is so pure. I can't believe it's not extremely popular. -

Like an instrument no one cares about how you tune, just how you play. -

That's primitive hunting, and a form of hunting, but I was referring to the stalk.
I don't call using traps hunting. Same as tree stands, rifles, hunting over baits etc. It's harvesting meat. Fair play to you if you're in to organic meat, you get a good food supply, but it's not hunting. It's harvesting. -

thats sustainable hunting.
you shouldnt be able to kill more animals you can per day than what your bare hands and muscular forces are capable of. -
2019-12-17 at 6:29 AM UTCWhatever it is, I don't call it hunting unless you're tracking and stalking.
