Well it's mostly Filipinos and a smattering of hispanics. Being around the Filipinos really smooths out their alcoholic, rapey urges.
And my moms going to be there. I'm going bc the family that's hosting have been family friends forever, and I played baseball with their son. We always spent the holidays together until their daughter sent me a MySpace message in high school that I was gonna die if I kept smoking weed and I could be whole again if I just let Jesus take me into his loving arms. So for the last 15 years or so I've either spent holidays by myself or something bc I couldn't bear to go over there.
But it's coming up on a year off drugs now so....guess it's time. Can't say I'm looking forward to it though. -

Well a few years my mom stayed home and we did stuff there, but mostly I just spent it like any other day. When I worked restaurants I usually just asked to work that day. And this family is super traditional. Super fucking catholic, and the mom has like every expensive cooking implement from Sur la Table. They buy a $150 heritage turkey every year and she does it in this huge copper roasting pan. They might have chapino or lumpia if any of their other family is gonna be there but it sounds like it's gonna be small.
And I haven't been there since 2004 or 2005. If they're stupid enough to ask questions, I'm just going to be honest and they can deal with the same awkwardness I have to feel. But they're sweet people, and I have to imagine they're smarter than that. -
