By the time middle school hits, girls are almost at peak bitch, don't pretend like that doesn't progress over several years. Kinda skimmed the thread, but you have to find a way to show them that their behavior has a negative consequence. Surely a child that age has some privilege such as TV time or some other activity, which can be limited or taken away completely until such behavior is changed. You can also reinforce positive behavior by giving them extra privilege, or getting them a small item, like if they are into doing their hair get them hair things, or if they like doing make up get them a fun make up set. Some kids do understand when you explain to them how their actions make others feel if you can break it down enough. Like "When you say that to them it makes them feel sad because ____" or "Wouldn't you feel bad if someone said _____ to you?".
Edit: Saw your last post too, and no, you don't let them be a bitch. It doesn't get you far past 23 when you end up a single mother and your looks start to fade. Don't let them be a push-over either though. You don't want them to feel trapped as an adult because they didn't assert themselves enough early in life and ended up with some guy that treats them like shit. It's hard raising girls I guess. -
