Building a gaming pc for $800

  1. #1

I play on a 22" 720p monitor with no plans to go any larger though I'm thinking of adding another monitor or two.

I mostly play racing games with the occasional fps. I am probably overdoing this but I want it to be future proof as well

I might get an ssd eventually but I don't really need things that fast. I know i could get an 8gb ddr4 and 2 4gb ddr4 and save some money but I want to be able to add another 8gb one down the road.

Should I get extra cpu cooling even though I don't think I'll need it?

It's been a long fucking time since I've done this, so feel free to make fun of me/recommend changes

looks pretty reasonable, gaming generally doesn't put much load on the CPU compared to GPU so you can probably do what I did and get the 6400 i5 to save a few shekels

intel processors come with a cheap cooler; you shouldn't need to upgrade it if your case has decent airflow and you don't plan on overclocking. if you do want to upgrade it I probably wouldn't bother with anything less than a sealed watercooler, they usually start at around $80 I believe.

this is way better and cheaper. you might even have enough money to get a real monitor.

get another pair of 2gb sticks if you find that 4gb isn't enough. the motherboard includes 4gb. it even comes with a CPU cooler.

I don't plan on overclocking but I want to leave some room for improvement in case I need it. I was thinking that if I decided to upgrade the processor I would go with water cooling

you are not spending enough money to make watercooling worth it with that setup.

is that a kbparadise v60? best keyboard

I've been considering setting up a custom watercooling loop but cost looks like it'll be around $500 or so, which is fuckin ridiculous

they stack up pretty fucking good to the 1060.

i imagine they just don't be as cool. probably hampered a little. at hash slinging slashers price he could spend 40 more dollars to get a full size unit if he felt like it, i think he'd be better off getting a bigger monitor.

and yes its a KB paradise v60. i love it.

the custom loop you see there cost 650 or so. it's not worth it. i just really wanted a watercooled dual xeon wooden computer with a quadro.

The thing is I don't want a bigger monitor. Anything bigger or prettier gives me a headache

And I'm probably going to add another monitor or two of the same size because muh immersion

Alright, one more question and I promise I'll leave you guys alone.

Would it be worth it to shell out the extra $100 for a 1070 in case I decide to get into vr or will a 1060 suffice? I don't need ultra high 4k definition or anything like that.

yes, i really doubt a 1060 will be competent in VR.

not sure about 1060 but I have an OSVR headset and my 1070 has handled everything I've tried without issue

This question has basically become obsolete since the invention of

    http://logicalincrements.com/

Find deals on each part on your own and you can get each build for cheaper.
