Not much you can do about it now.

Sure there is. First throw him in prison for fraud and international and domestic terrorism and treason charges, then reverse every single order he ever made, going back as far as when he was a Senator.

Wrong, crimes have been committed. Does the criminal justice system look at a murder and say, "Oh well, he's dead nothing we can do about it now?"

you can't change the fact that he was president of the united states for that 8 year period, that's already happened now, nothing you do would change that. what good would locking him up do now, what purpose would it serve?

It doesnt have to be for anything really. For instance, Clinton was impeached but he never actually lied in court. He just worded it really sneaky. Sexual relations was defined as intercourse, which he did not have. He just got a blowjob.

In this instance there are multiple reasons why Trump is being impeached. Namely his extortion of Ukraine. Republicans say he was just being a businessman, but you can't break US agreements and withold aid to extort foreign countries into investigating your political rivals.

At first Republicans tried to deny it but at this point the evidence is out in the open. Trump admitted it on national television. Now they're just focused on damage control and pushing the whole 'quid pro quo' thing rather than calling it extortion.

What he did is explicitly illegal.

I bet this happens with great regularity.

What he did is explicitly illegal.

Just because something isn't legal doesn't mean a punishment is specified.

Nobody said a punishment was specified. That's for the judge to decide.

    Not what I meant.

Often times a law will say something, but no punishment will be specified for not complying. Like "in situation x the officer will do y", but no punishment is specified if he doesn't. It's just one of those things where it all gets vague and it leaves enormous scope for abuse.

Again, nobody said otherwise. I don't know if the punishment is specified for this or not. That is again, for the judge to decide. And it has nothing to do with impeachment.
