    Of 39 salt brands tested, 36 had microplastics in them, according to a new analysis by researchers in South Korea and Greenpeace East Asia.

    ->

    The three brands that did not contain microplastics are from Taiwan (refined sea salt), China (refined rock salt), and France (unrefined sea salt produced by solar evaporation).

    Yeah, so you get goitre instead. I used to live at a 1 HR drive from Kewra where this shit comes from, it does actually taste good though. But needs to be supplemented with iodine.

    ???

    90% of the salt consumed worldwide are on non iodinized salt.

    i, together with billions of other people in 3rd world countries grew up with rock cheap uniodinized seasalts and not have any problems. we just eat something else with plenty of iodines in them.

    funny thing is idonized salts can cost more than himalayan salts here.

    True but it's highly dependent on your diet and most people do not know wtf they are doing whatsoever. In Pakistan they take the salt from Kewra and add iodine for local consumption. The best way to ensure your populace gets enough iodine is by fortifying salt.

    No one remembers but rickets was a serious problem before they started putting iodine in everything.

    A serving of iodine is like in the milli or even micrograms iirc

    What happens if they screw up the formula and we get 5000 times the regular dose?

    Fentanyls need not apply

    Speak of plastic, where does it go? Does it get absorbed at subversive plate boundaries or what?

    That's not really a question with any single answer, just imagine it is like dust, it will get in everything and stay in circulation until perchance it hits a process that removes it without reintroduction. Such as subduction. But I doubt it. Many plastics contain air molecules in their porous interior, and a bit of water in their porous exterior and it usually makes it a little less dense than water overall. So in net they can rise rather than fall. Although there are other factors at play.
