   More like they found out it's Hollow inside because it rang like a giant LibertyBell when they lifted off with thrust.. sensors showed it vibrated sound waves from with in.

   Maybe it's like a Taco Bell Crunch Wrap that some employee forgot to stuff items inside and so it's not just a flat solid plate but rather like a Pentagon Shaped Tortilla

   Then it's not flat, which it is. You can clearly see the moon is flat by it's different phases, which are when you start seeing it tilt away from us.
