Nobody could work as hard as I did, or so I thought, until I met the Ayette's, a black family from Guyana. Three sons, two daughters, father and mother, all extremely hard-working people. I worked on the roof with two of the sons. Nobody can outwork me, when it comes to the kind of jobs that can knock you on your ass, but these two guys actually showed me up. We would work 10-12 hour days up there, so tough that your back would be on fire and your wrists like spaghetti, but these two kept right on going no matter what. I was truly amazed. Right there I knew that black people can work just as good and just as hard, if not better, than white people.
