Anyone else seen it yet? Just got back. Normally I love really gritty character studies, but I almost felt like something was missing. Id almost have enjoyed it more if I WASN'T expecting Joker to be.....well....Joker. That said this is definitely my favorite depiction in a film. Ledger was cool I guess, but always just seemed like emo-Joker. Phoenix is pretty legit in most everything he does. Even got me to sit though The Master. I think I think it couldve been rounded off perfectly if they showed a little more of the cerebral, sinister, manipulative joker- rather than the sort of damaged everyman. I simply wasnt scared of this guy. His story doesnt necessarily sympathize with him, but you understand why he does the things he does, and theres some pleasure in seeing people get their just desserts. There was a lot of interpretive dance and artistic choices i found odd (like the ending), but maybe im just a yokel with no taste for "high art".
Idk. Im tired. Anyone see this yet? Thoughts?
I give it a solid 8/10 balloons of heroin...plus a $20 if you drive me to the store real quick.

Can you make a post with spoilers tho? I'm probably never going to watch this movie. I hate superhero stuff.
Theres no superhero-ing in this movie at all. I think thats why I came away from it feeling sort of confused. Its basically about a mentally ill comedian and a subtle critique of how we treat people around us. The comparisons to Taxi Driver/ king of Comedy are pretty spot on. I also got some Christian Bale in The Machinist vibes (what with the spiraling mental illness, not knowing whats real, depression, emaciation)
If youre not into kind of drawn out, psychological character studies with flashes of violence, i completely get why you wouldnt like this movie. But if you ever liked say...True Detective...its got the same kind of gritty, much less fantastical, more grounded feel.

All I see on the pirate bay are cams, anyone know how long it takes for actual copies of movies to come out?
Couple months at least. This is going to be in theatres forever
the movie would basically just be about ultra violence and hate porn it would probably receive an MA rating and would be banned from theaters, but hey who actually goes to a theater anymore when you can do that in VR

That's what I fucking hate about these goddamn "modern" "superhero" movies ... they're not even superhero movies they're just shitty pretentious drama "films" that happen to feature characters from superhero comics ... what is even the fucking point? What type of people are they trying to appeal to here .... they could have made something like Joker without actually making it about a comic book character, they could have replaced that with a story about a broken and lonely man who turns against the world and becomes a serial killer and that would have been far more interesting.
The following users say it would be alright if the author of this
post didn't die in a fire!

I grew up without a father, played with barbie dolls when I was a kid and my favorite movie of all time at that time was Terminator 2, I wanted to be like Arnold.

it would be funny to see what these hacks would do with The Darkness (I never read the comics but I absolutely loved the first game, it was my favorite game of the 7th gen).
