These fucking tunnels are all over San Francisco including the islands..my friends and I at around age 11 were taking a boys club trip to Alcatraz and we saw an open steel door and found ourselves under the prison in the older prison and tunnel system the then newer Alcatraz prison would be built. This went back to late 1700s. Archer brick tunnels and sandstone. When we left some guy was closing the door and we ran screaming and banged on it..He yelled at us for being in there.
I saw a news story in the last year were someone with a magnetic type eco system showing a display and confirming some kind of tunnel exist. I was told in the 1980s the poured concrete to shut it off.

If you go to lands end in San Francisco by the legionar vet memorial there are miles of closed off tunnels where ventilation shafts exist that you can crawl in. I've been a few hundred feet inside at best. But I know they go on for miles.
Under the Army armory on Mission Street now used to make porn (the fuck machine with a dildo you may have seen attached to what looks like a workhorse device) is rented there now.
They have tunnels eating back perhaps thousands of years the armory was built on that is said to have a natural spring you drink from.. People swear it relieves them from pain.I
These tunnels stretch over to the presidio to old Nike missile silos.
