Not every situation can be solved with "Oh I carry a gun! Ill be fine!". A knife is inherently more deadly than a gun because even if you have a gun on your person someone intending to do you real harm could bleed you out before you even have a chance to grab it, let alone aim it.

   meh, I know a few people that have been stabbed and survived, most people don't know how to do real harm even if they intend to. Some of them didn't even know they had been stabbed until after a fight. There are advantages and disadvantages of knifes and guns but there's not much aiming to do if someone is close enough to stab you. Obviously I'm not actually posing as a sex worker and it was just an anecdote. I have some experience with hand to hand combat and in that situation I would probably not even bother with the gun, block with left hand and go for their trachea with my right.
