So I hear about autism everywhere I go. It seems to be a meme here, but what causes it?
Why was there no such thing as autism when I was growing up? They had a special class for what they called “slow learners”, so were they autistic without having the label?
There was also no such thing as ADD or ADHD.
Mental health has come a long way, but is autism new, or has it been here all along?
And before anyone says, “it’s not new”, I know this, it’s been labeled for over 20 years, maybe more; but it’s new to my generation.

“What causes autism?
Prenatal viral infection has been called the principal non-genetic cause of autism. Prenatal exposure to rubella or cytomegalovirus activates the mother's immune response and may greatly increase the risk for autism in mice. Congenital rubella syndrome is the most convincing environmental cause of autism.”
I don't believe Autism exists, they function perfectly fine they just need a slap and parents that aren't retarded
Every autism person I ever met had retarded parents that force fed them drugs. I don't think they have a disease, some people are just different its what makes us human maaaan
We should like embrace our differences not look at them as disabilities

Since I started this thread, I’ve been looking through some articles. There seem to be actual structural differences in the brain. One study suggests there are more synapses in the autistic brain.

nobody really knows what causes it and diagnosis is almost totally heuristic
generally speaking, autards function better at low-level tasks like math and poorly at high-level tasks like reading speech cues and body language

Autism is real but a lot of ADHD claims are bullshit. Makes me laugh when kiddos think it affects their brain differently because they've got ADHD. "it makes me calm bro" like no, it makes everyone calm and confident and focused. You have a funny idea of how low dose amphetamines should be. Bitch.
Overdiagnosed, overprescribed, and harmful to developing brains.
