Someone responded with the fact that the character was a mill-ennial so it's reasonable that he would still be living at home mooching off his parents..lolol
That would actually be a funny movie...adult home alone rather than a reboot.

I agree although I had "the haunted mask" on vhs and the commentary at the beginning was by Ben Stein who claimed to be R.L. Stein the creator so later when I watched "win Ben Steins shekels" I assumed his money was from writing goosebumps and not speeches for Richard Nixon

Being literally unable to afford rent despite working a full time job is not the same as "mooching"
