I took a year of Chinese classes in a classroom, using books. It's not hard. OP probably can't afford it tho.
Originally posted by Sophie This is actually a good suggestion. Learning how to speak it wouldn't be a problem for me personally the hard part is learning kategana, hiragana and kanji.
I've heard English and Japanese share 80% of the same sounds so it's pretty easy to pronounce if you can speak English. Plus you anime.
Kanji and Katakana should be pretty straightforward tho. Its the hirigana that'll fuck you. Whoever implemented it into Japanese is a massive retard. I imagine this is like 50% of the reason Chinese people hate Japanese. They pronounce all the characters wrong. -

Katakana and hiragana are very easy to learn, just get a chart or some cards and practice.
Kanji however takes years to master.
I'll start seriously studying Japanese after I get a basic foundation of music theory going. -

Most Japanese people do not speak English, just the ones who are required to for business and even then it's not perfect.
There was a study done recently that showed Japan was behind all other wealthy and developed nations in terms of English proficiency and thank G-d for that.
Someday I would like to visit Japan and see Japan, not faceless globalized patch of land #9,001. -

Originally posted by Sophie Your life is boring precisely because you aren't writing a book, or doing anything productive. I know you hate capitalism, and love AI and games. Go learn how to code, for yourself. You're always talking about constructing your perfect virtual reality. It's a fantasy, sure. But if you don't work your fucking ass off to make it a reality it will never become a reality. And even if you fail, then at least you can say you tried your best. And suicide without regrets.

Meeting strangers off the internet
Ballet - at a class and at home, I also like watching it.
Can always kill time shopping.
Chess
Travelling
Reading
Learning languages
A lot of time is spent on my mental health
Collecting antiques. I like reading antique books as well.
Audiobooks - I recommend Proust and Murakami
Library, cinema, hackerspace, graveyard, arcade, diner, abandoned buildings are places I'd frequent. Occasionally the pub and crackhead corner.
I used to volunteer at the science festival
Idk there's been a lot of strange activities but I can't fit them into a category. Tracking down Sophie with Myers was one of them. Walking along a beach in Wales playing the soundtrack from Submarine so I could feel like I was in the movie. Last year I made a game with people. Going to a Fetlife meetup. Scooby Doo role-play. Plotting revenge. Drugs.
Ig I'll leave out the online stuff and things I'm learning. -

2024-01-20 at 12:21 PM UTCyou could just spend your life being a clown having everyone laugh at your misery? idk man people are pretty fucking insufferable and the only way i can really interact with them on any level that actually has any meaning is when the computer screen is acting as a buffer. i used to want to be their friends but the last few years have really opened my eyes to how mindless and shitty damn near everyone is (i would say everyone because i honestly haven't met anyone i dont think who isnt like that in 10 years or so but im just leaving open the possibility that there are people who can think for themselves and dont just want to blindly shit on someone just because someone afforded them the opportunity to) and i no longer see a point in even trying to assimilate because even though they dont understand it, i know in my soul i will never be anything like them and dont want to contribute anything to society anymore

2024-01-20 at 12:27 PM UTCi mean honestly, why would you choose to interact with people in person when you could just do it online? like why give someone more access to fuck you over than they need? why give them an avenue to manipulate you with facial expression and tone and whatever other bullshit. it never works on me and its a waste of my fuckin time and energy
