Anyone ever use Chlordiazepoxide(Librium) to help things along and if so how hard is it to get??
I have lots of Xanax but I dont think its going to cut it.

Xanax is a much stronger benzo than Librium but Librium is often used for its long half life. Xanax is so short acting the rebound might make your symptoms worse overall.

You might have an easier time getting Valium than Librium for the same purpose depending on where you are, either will work pretty well. I'd imagine if you go to a doctor and are honest about wanting to quit and feeling like you need assistance to do so they'll give you something. If you really want to get your point across tell them you're physically dependent and are afraid you'll have a seizure even if you aren't.

Detox with a toxin what a great idea.

Coming off alcohol is the hardest, not physically, although having the booze shakes and feeling physically ill isn't too bad, you will be unable to sleep for a long time and have a hyper reality where you smoke 5 cigs back to back and get nothing from them. You will stare at things and retain nothing. I substituted with opiates but still had a helluva time

I'm personally not into benzos and tried using valium a week ago to quit but it was just a waste of time for me personally.

I used to work at the St hospital years ago and they would give out Librium and it seemed to work well with some people.

For me gabapentin/lyrica is way more effective for quitting drinking and it doesn't seem to be addictive/slow me down like benzos

Librium is hard to get. You typically have to be in a clinical setting like a mental hospital to get it

Im on my second day not drinking and I feel like crap. I smoked some weed last night and slept for two hours. Been up since four am. I eventually got out of bed and ate six whyte castle burgers and a couple of kiwis but can't stand the shakes and sweating. I'm sure I'll eventually be fine. Just sucks really bad right now

The ERs I've been to (seeing other patients and talking to them) give out Librium like candy it seems.

I'd try it... I have no idea how it works but it would be a good idea in the short term to avoid a potential seizure.

Good luck, I wish you the best.

I just got out Hazelden, pretty much the best rehab in the country, or very close to it.

They use Librium and phenobartital (for really bad patients I assume). Either Librium or Valium would be the gold standard and the best option for you; Librium a bit better though. Also, you should try to ganapentin if they offer it to you..say it worked really well for you in the past and you'll get it probably.

Don't use xanax. It will make things worse, I'm serious.

If you need to, you should also taper with alcohol itself if nothing else. Don't just quit drinking completely without a benzo or alco taper.

You can do it. Go to a detox unit if possible.

You should try LSD therapy to quit drinking.

Valium all the way for alcohol withdrawal. Then Lorazapam to taper off the Valium.

my dad did this when I was younger and it didn't really work so my new age hippieish mom boiled dandelion stems to detox which apparently worked but made him very sick I remember.

No one would use a short acting benzo to taper off a long acting one. Once you taper with Valium you just gradually decrease the Valium.

I've personally witnessed several doctors prescribe exactly that. Valium, and then Lorazepam.

They were poorly educated then. It makes no logical sense.
