What will happen if the United States balkanizes
-
2019-07-24 at 5:40 AM UTCAlso what are the odds of this happening in the next century
think about this with an open mind
15 - 20 years ago nobody would have thought there would be robots, virtual reality, quantum computing etc in the 2010s, progress is growing exponentially so you can't judge the next 20 years based on the previous 20.

No people didn't.
Virtual reality wasn't commercial yet, it was just experimental unreleased tech.
Virtuaboy isn't virtual reality.
Robots weren't used either, unless you count simple forms of automation/robotic arms which don't count. -

Um yes it was...there were several commercially available VR headsets in the 80s and 90s...arcades used to have them.

lol of course they count. Robots have been around for decades too. As a kid in the 80s I used to build robot kits with sensors that would navigate it around a maze and shit and learn the route so next time you put it in it went straight to the exit.
You millenials..lololol -

The earliest designs of industrial robots were put into production in the United States were implemented in the 1930's.
The first electronic autonomous robots with complex behavior were created by William Grey Walter of the Burden Neurological Institute at Bristol, England in 1948 and 1949.
The introduction of transistors into computers in the mid-1950s reduced their size and increased performance.
Marvin Minsky created the Tentacle Arm in 1968; the arm was computer-controlled and its 12 joints were powered by hydraulics.
The development of humanoid robots was advanced considerably by Japanese robotics scientists in the 1970s. Waseda University initiated the WABOT project in 1967, and in 1972 completed the WABOT-1, the world's first full-scale humanoid intelligent robot.
In 1984 Wabot-2 was revealed; capable of playing the organ, Wabot-2 had 10 fingers and two feet. Wabot-2 was able to read a score of music and accompany a person.
In 1994 one of the most successful robot-assisted surgery appliances was cleared by the FDA. The Cyberknife had been invented by John R. Adler and the first system was installed at Stanford University in 1991.
Which brings us to 20 years ago. -

Not VR.
Computer hardware in the early 90s wasn't powerful enough to render games in VR.
VR requires two side by side images being rendered simultaneously at a very high frame rate (90+ for modern VR) and with the ability to move around in the game world freely. -
2019-07-24 at 1:35 PM UTCand as for robots none of what you posted are robots
I'm talking about drones and bipedal robots that can move about an area freely and analyze data.
Robots like Asimo that will replace the workers at amazon. -

So I guess your definition of a robot is replacing the one accepted by the scientific community at large for that last 100 years. -
