I think one could argue that, ultimately, consciousness can entirely be reduced to pleasurable and painful stimuli.
If we can assign a favorable/disfavorable qualitative judgment to it, it's pleasure/pain.
Or, alternately:
1. Good/bad.
2. Positive/negative.
3. Approach/avoid.
4. Reward/punishment.
I'd imagine that thrills fall somewhere into the pleasure side. -
2019-07-21 at 4:06 AM UTCHow could you even gauge pleasure without pain to compare it to?

2019-07-21 at 7:42 AM UTCsounds shitty. i mean experiencing pain and pleasure is a thing, but it's all a matter of by what measure you experience both. i think for most people they experience neutral to pleasurable things far more often than actual painful things. which is why most people don't kill themselves. and since my brain is currently hardwired to value pleasure, you'd be hard pressed to convince me to eliminate that from my existence. on the other hand if my existence were so shitty that i were more hard wired towards the avoidance of pain, i might take the offer.

beautifully articulated. You have a really good way with words, and convey meaning with great clarity. -
