World of Chess rocked, as Grandmaster caught cheating

This site doesn't have a sport forum. Weird that.
During an open tournament July 10-14 in Strasbourg, France, a phone was found in a toilet that had just been used by Rausis. He later signed a declaration that the phone was his.

Whether he was using his phone to get assistance from a chess engine is not clear at the moment.

In a comment to Chess.com, Rausis said:

I simply lost my mind yesterday. I confirmed the fact of using my phone during the game by written [statement]. What could I say more? Yes, I was tired after the morning game and all the Facebook activity of accusers also have a known impact. At least what I committed yesterday is a good lesson, not for me—I played my last game of chess already.

There are also problems with chess players taking adderall and modafinil as performance enhancing drugs.

Who gives a fuck, this shit happens all the time, the sport of chess is obsolete now as computers are superior to humans.

We do have a Sports forum. It's called: The 1936 Barcelona Olympics
The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire!

I ctrl+f'd for "sport", but the description doesn't contain the word.

because calling it sports is what low class illiteratis do.

high class people call it atheletic endeavours.

I don't see why taking performance enhancing drugs is necessarily a bad thing for a sport in which the goal of the game is literally to be as smart as humanly possible. Drugs should be encouraged if they help with that.

All competition would be way more interesting if drugs were allowed.

You're basically behind by not doing them anyway. Especially with stuff like steroids you can just time your cycles to avoid drug tests while still reaping the rewards.

Allowing PEDs is a fucking retarded idea. PEDs can be pretty significantly harmful, allowing them would turn sports into a contest of who is willing to shave the most years off their lifespan. Even if you're the best sportsman out there but the field is dirty, you will lose, so you have to engage in PEDs too. For example with Lance Armstrong, the top like 25 other dudes testing positive for roids in cycling too, and ALL of them cited the fact that everyone else was doing it so they felt compelled to too.

And that's actually the tragedy of doping: somewhere out there, the best cyclist of our era is sitting unrecognised. And that will continue to be the case if doping is allowed because then the best cyclist will be whoever is willing to push their system to the limit or even beyond it for a taste of glory. You still have to be a damn good cyclist of course, but PEDs are a big enough performance favtor that if two people are totally equal but one pushes themselves harder on PEDs, that dude is gonna win. Eventually the "championship factor" will just be the drug cycle.

That's kind of what a metagame is though, if a strategy is effective you kind of have to adapt. With or without doping many athletes shorten their lives or do serious long term damage to their bodies in order to compete at the top level. I'm not saying it's good, but if negative health effects to competitors was really a reason to add or change rules of a game then football basically wouldn't exist and pitching in baseball would look very different than it does today. Half of spacies tech would be banned in melee and everyone would just play puff. I'm not saying we shouldn't take the well being of players into account but it's clearly not the only thing the consideration of how we handle PEDs or assistive technology in competition.

Combine that with the fact that stimulant drugs in the levels that are likely to be useful mental contests are probably reasonably safe (you're not playing your best chess game when you're tweaked out, you're probably taking about the level that people take when being treated for ADHD) I think there's at least a case to be made for allowing them in chess.

    .
I got started on a longer reply but I realize you're just being an edge lord so I'm gonna keep it simple.

I don't mind if there's a separate PED division (shit I bet it would be very successful, people would go crazy watching the superman leagues).

But if sportsmen in any way get put in a position where they need to take PEDs to compete, it immediately ruins the integrity of the game.

The metagame shouldn't include your opponent's Adderall cycle.

    Protip: it already does.

All this would do is erase rhe facade.

Don't want to take the drugs? Don't play sports.

No, it doesn't. And it shouldn't. The metagame should be about the playing of the game, there is no metagame to drugs. You take drugs as necessary to improve your performance. Unless you're suggesting some sort of drug counterplay will form, which again will simply not be part of the game.

It's not a fucking metagame lmao. It's interference by external factors.

Yeah, I'm not talking about physical sports, I'm just talking about mental sports, like chess and poker and things like that. Maybe video games too.
