Why police need body cameras

Had the cameras not been on this guy would've got a pass. Not because the cops are necessarily corrupt, but because they're clearly worried about their jobs and having to be put in this position.

I think this is the major thing people miss when they talk about DRRR FUK COPS. Most people probably would not want to arrest their boss. These dudes have a career on the line here. Imagine without cameras? No way they're going to risk getting fired by arresting their LT. I doubt anyone here would, it's a very human response. But with cameras? Cameras give them accountability. Now it can be proven they were doing the right thing. They don't have to worry about losing their jobs, they can just fucking DO their jobs.

Lots of respect for these guys even though they would've probably let him go without the camera. They could've turned it off like has happened in situations like this before. But they didn't.

Actually the guy not filming is kind of shitty. It's the cameracop (John) who takes charge and makes the hard decisions and tells the other dude to turn on his camera that was off.

Probably wouldn't last all day otherwise. Guy mentions switching cameras so I wonder if they don't have a few. Plus they gotta go on break and use the bathroom and shit too.

When they need to have it on probably varies from place to place.

yeah, this seems like an edge case. the only reason the cameras didn't 'malfunction' is because the cops didn't want them to.

So it looks like most places require police to activate their camera when they respond to every call/incident. If you forget to turn it on supposedly you get in deep shit.

I wonder if that isn't what the second guy was trying to do. I mean you'd think it would be an automatic response to turn it on so you don't get in trouble.

And the dash cam one is on all the time.

The cop who was filming was top notch. Couldn't of handled it any better.

Extremely telling when every time they call or talk to a new officer the first thing they say is "my cam is running, video and audio" reminding them not to say anything stupid. I watched this very video a few days ago and it was almost painful how patient and polite and all that they are with a dude that would've otherwise been arrested under any routine circumstances.

Like they're trying to think of any way they could somehow let the dude go but since they're on cam their hands are tied and it is genuinely frustrating them, nevermind the fact that it's a DUI and they would otherwise find it to be such a great thing to arrest a person for it without thinking twice.

I like watching the police pulling over police videos just to see how desperate these officers are to try and find some outside resolution knowing full well since the body cams are on theres nothing they can do. The drunk officers/sheriffs begging and pleading like probably every person that ever gets pulled over does but it goes on for way longer because the arresting officers are so much more patient.

Yeah I was a block from home or literally pulling into my destination on my DUIs but they didn't waste any time fucking me over even when i passed the field sobriety tests. Serves 'em right when they're forced to take these guys in to. No leeway for me no leeway for them, FAGGOT COPS. ;)

If you were a cop you'd do the exact same shit. Nobody wants to arrest a friend. What are they supposed to do be robot dicks like I KNOW YOU WERE MY FIRST SARGEANT BUT FUCK U I'M GONNA TREAT U LIKE SHIT.

I mean its all very human. Cops are just humans. That's why we need cameras so they can act as an extension of the law and not as humans. It's stupid to see these cops as corrupt when that one dude did the right thing in the end. Actions are what matter.

If he turned off his camera you'd just be screaming the same shit anyway.
