Scientology, I find particularly fascinating. David Miscavige has taken a cult and legitimized it with the federal government...which he infiltrated better than any other organization in history. Scientology has taken a very smart approach and accomplished the very difficult task of turning a cult into a religion. L. Ron Hubbard wasn't your garden variety prophet, but he definitely understood the long game, and David Miscavige has managed that system into full on federal legitimacy. If you want to start a cult, then you'd be wise to study these two.

It is in essence, management. In some cases where the cult is "benign" you really just cultivate a feeling or understanding. If you want to use the cult for purposes unspoken you will need to manipulate these feelings and understandings until the subject reaches the desired role or level.
