   They used to but apparently they only do it in Alaska now. I remember seeing them in stores as a kid though.

    Yeah the ability to purchase weapons doesn't have a lot to do with freedom, I'm pretty sure you could buy far more powerful weapons in lots of dodgy "unfree" countries.
    
    If you have enough rubles you could probably buy a Mig29 in some places.
