Overdoses would go down due to KNOWING the purity because it would all be pharmaceutical grade. It would make it easier for people to seek help to end addiction due to stigmas being lessened and government money going toward education, harm reduction, and help with addiction if it were legalized rather than toward "the war on drugs".

you know most people with kids think prohibition is a good thing because it will help keep their child safe from using these 'dangerous' drugs. they've been told their whole life that 'drugs are bad, mkay' and so they keep repeating that same mantra because 'it must be true coz everyone says so'. and everyone else keeps repeating it the same because everybody else is saying so.
none of these parents ever consider the fact that drugs exist and always will do, prohibition or not. and what's more if their child was to try drugs(which many do), because of prohibition, they will hide away from the very beginning, probably round some other kids house who you never even knew he was friends with. he will take every measure he can to hide it from you, teachers, the law and anybody who isn't within his immediate drug taking group. because prohibition has taught him long ago that drugs is something you must hide no matter what. obviously coz nobody wants the kind of trouble that comes with drugs from prohibition.
and so because directly of prohibition, by the time you find out that your child has started using drugs, it will be way down the line where they've got the behavior so ingrained that its way too late to just stop them using now. if it wasn't for prohibition then your child probably wouldn't have gone to half the trouble they did to hide it from the very people who care enough to help him at the very beginning when there is still very much a good chance that you could encourage them to put a stop to the behavior. because if at anytime in the drug using timeline they could have prevented going into full on drug fueled self destruction(if that was where they were heading) it would have to have been at the very early stage. but prohibition makes that nearly impossible in every single case.

Drugs are one of the more self-destructive avenues of recreation. Recreational drug use is - by nature of it being recreational - totally unnecessary. You don't need to get high. Ever. Add to that the risks, and it totally makes sense to prohibit access. Of course you can say that harm reduction education and an educated populace would ideally never run into problems with legal drug use, but that is utopian nonsense. The reality is that people are fucking stupid. People will destroy themselves, their lives, and the lives of others if they're allowed to do drugs. Because they're fucking stupid. The government has a moral obligation to the people to prevent them from hurting themselves. You aren't crying about seatbelt safety laws, and it's the exact same concept. Why aren't you crying about that? Because you aren't a degenerate seatbeltlessness addict. You're a degenerate drug addict. 🤔 -

Athleticism is a net positive. Sports are not just recreational. There are risks, but sports make you healthier and teach people to work together. Not so with recreational drug use - it is simultaneously selfish and self-destructive behavior. Alcohol should also be illegal. And coffee should be age restricted and eventually made illegal too. -
