Thats not what the mirror test does. It just tests for self recognition.

Abstract thinking is thinking of things that aren't there. Like us right now thinking about elephants despite there not being any present. We can think about elephants in massive dimension too. Humans can imagine Rube Goldberg machines with elephants sliding up and down and through chutes, in their heads, absolutely no problem. Different angles, different problems, etc. It's critical and imaginative thinking.

Animals only think what is necessary for them to think in order for them to survive and propagate. It's very conservative thinking.

My dog is adorable but he likes to steal food. Whenever I catch him in the act he looks me in the eyes and sort of mutters under his breath and says "Fuck". And then he scampers off.

It's pretty cute I've never met anyone with a dog like mine who can talk and make martinis.
