    A 40-year-old Passaic man died Wednesday while trying to fix a kitchen appliance.
    
    Passaic officials say that Omar Lopez was trying to repair a microwave and was electrocuted.
    
    First responders attempted to resuscitate Lopez for about 45 minutes.
    
    Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene, officials say.

    It is possible to be shocked by an unplugged microwave, said Michael Eis, owner of A-1 Repair Services Inc. in Fair Lawn. However, it is unlikely to be a shock big enough to kill someone unless the appliance was plugged in.
    
    "Anything is possible but highly unlikely," Eis said. "If the capacitator still has electricity in it, you'll get a shock."
    
    Eis once got hit with 40,000 volts of electricity in the middle of a repair job, which left his hand numb and tingly for half of the day.
