Okay, not gonna lie, that is pretty fucking impressive.

I've never owned an Apple product in my life, and likely never will (for a variety of reasons - mostly just inertia... I've been using PC's since before Windows 3.11 for Workgroups; but also because Apple can be kinda douchey about allowing customers to customize their products or even replace individual parts, overcharging, manipulative and even coercive marketing strategies, etc), but they can produce some quality technology.

    Terabytes of RAM? Like WTF...?

I'm rocking a measly six cores with 16 GB of RAM. And I paid close to $3k on this computer about a year ago.

none of that stuff is unique to apple; you can build that same machine yourself if you can afford 12x 128gb fucking RAM sticks

Yeah I figured there was either an existing non-Apple equivalent (AMD64 or whatevs), or that it could at least be done DIY style if one were so inclined.

I've heard of Raspberry Pi clusters combining computational resources... It stands to reason that even state of the art desktop PC's could be clustered together.

That's a lot of sticks of RAM tho. I need a computer parts Costco so I can grab a dozen sticks of RAM.

it's definitely possible but breakdown, delegation of tasks and request/responses all add to overheads and create bottlenecks so it's only really useful in some circumstances

there's really very very very very few people on the planet who have any need at all for terabytes of ram on a single personal computer. anyone that needs that much ram just needs a farm of servers with thousands of cores and hundreds of terabytes of ram anyways.

    so it's really pointless
