When people appeal to science as if it were a god

2016-12-11 at 4:18 PM UTCI always see douches around school with shirts like "Science doesn't care what you believe." While they're technically not wrong, they misinterpret what science is. Science is not a dogmatic set of beliefs with 10 commandments that say "god isn't real, the world is round, etc etc." Those things may be true, but science is just a process that tests hypothesis. It has no beliefs. Although unlikely, for all we know, the laws of the universe could be completely upturned tomorrow. Then all those beliefs they had would go under.

It's more about how I just don't like those people than any sort of commentary on what criteria we should use to decide if something is true or not.

THomas Eddison the dude who invented the light bulb also invented the "ghost phone" because he believed everything is energy vibrations and when you die you are that energy and can be picked up through electronic devices.
Now today we have more advanced ghost phones.

Just like the die-hard Christians who wear Jesus propaganda and take every opportunity they can to share the gospel. I was like that for a while, both sides of the spectrum quite honestly. When I was ultra anti-Christianity I wore Jesus shirts ironically and took any chance I could to share how stupid I thought it was. I still think it's stupid but I don't lash into believers like I used to. I get why people believe in religion; it's not complicated. Those I object to are those that feel high and mighty and accept their beliefs as a sort of science and want to bring into every discussion. Oh and 'so sad, thoughts and prayers' is objectively the cringiest emptiest platitude there is. That one irks me.
There's nothing wrong with being passionate about what you believe in. I just think it's dumb to believe in absolutes, which I've mentioned before. We could be someone's snow globe that they decide to shatter 'tomorrow.' Nobody can prove otherwise. -
