   My father was Drafted but not deployed to Vietnam, while his friend was a sniper in Vietnam, with 40 confirmed kills...
   Mark, the sniper, Was jovial and fun - loving all day until the conversation turned to the war... He got really choked up thinking about the families of the men he killed... Really choked up talking about the devastating effects of Agent Orange...both to the enemy, and to several of his friends who are still suffering from illnesses caused by the deadly chemical... They were told by the government at the time that Agent Orange was not harmful to humans ...only foliage. We discussed how old politicians send young boys off to war, with rarely those kids being their own children. Mark, the sniper, feels that he was sent to battle, all for a lie. It became apparent to me that once you kill a man, that changes you forever. These men He killed werent his personal enemies. These were men with families, who were simply Being loyal to their country, and doing wat their country ordered them to do. War should never be glorified. There are no winners in war, except, perhaps, the people who don't fight in it. The ones that do, The ones that make it out alive, carry physical and psychological scars and burdens with them for the rest of their lives. War is hell. Whether you agree With the reasons behind war, the soldiers should be respected and appreciated for the contributions they make, and the sacrifices they endure.
