I use windows movie maker on XP because nothing else works for me.

Adobe Premiere doesn't work for me and neither does windows movie editor.

I don't have much frequent need for video editing at the moment, but I've been looking into a few different Windows video editors for future use.

I generally seek out open source first and foremost, then proprietary freeware next, and only look at paid for software as a last resort (they're usually pretty expensive... obviously piracy is always option, but... I try to avoid it these days personally).

Two that kept coming up as highly recommended were:
    1. DaVinci Resolve (proprietary but free to use the essential features needed).
    2. OpenShot (fully open source and free to use).

I'm leaning towards OpenShot. I downloaded and installed it but, like I said, I haven't had much need for it quite yet.

So I decided to try it out real real quick to just take it for a spin.

It's pretty straightforward to use, and has all kinds of features for standard cutting and moving clips around, as well as transitions of various kinds, and a bunch of other neat stuff I haven't checked out yet.

    EXAMPLE IN NEXT POST...

Giphy cut my video off at 15 seconds...

I didn't know it would do that.

    One sec.

^ I finally managed to upload it as a gif (took longer than editing the video in the first place).

Literally nothing else works. Adobe premiere crashes on my windows 10 computer.

I tried to use the windows 10 movie maker but it doesn't let you Import .avi files

Windows 7 movie maker doesn't let me publish movies because of a driver error

And all the other free ones use watermarks.

    Oneshot and Kdenlive are free.
If you want something professional and that will never fail you you're in for a disappointment as far as windows is concerned.
Those jewish fucks at adobe changed their software so that it's a subscription based service now instead of a one time payment.
Sony has some somewhat decent software, they used to be Vegas but they sold off that division or whatever and now have a product called "Catalyst".
I haven't tried catalyst, I do however own a copy of Movie Studio 14 (made by the people who did vegas) and IMO it's a disappointment, it gets the job done but is very barebones in terms of exporting files but for you it would be perfectly fine:
    https://www.amazon.com/VEGAS-Movie-Studio-15-Suite/dp/B07BBB63YR/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=movie+studio+15&qid=1558809843&s=gateway&sr=8-3

For me though I don't tolerate any bullshit so I'm waiting for when I get my mac then I'll use Final Cut Pro X.

    tl;dr use Kdenlive

Power Director Pro, if you want some point and click shit. Adobe Premiere and After Effects if you a big dick trill ass video editor. Sony Vegas, if you want something in between.
