yeah i know they do the same thing here in texas and its retarded. They also have "no refuse" weekends. which means if you refuse to take a test they will take you to the jail and test you.. which they will do no matter what if you refuse regardless of the weekend.
You could potentially incrimianate yourself by allowing a breathalizyer/ field sobriety test / search of your vehicle, and being buzzed isnt "drunk" driving. It's "buzzed driving" You have a legal right to be buzzed as long as our buzz isn't buzzing above the legal limit.
By the time they haul you off to jail and take your blood, most drinkers have a chance of being below the legal limit.
Cops are typically dumb as fuck or they don't care and will let things slide if you let them.
I've had multiple hit and runs here in austin, even one where spun my car out in a ditch and had to physically run, while my ID and social security card were left in the car (and my phone snapped from the impact)

several years ago I ran into the back of a lady while drunk while trying to go buy some bud. I was able to drive the car enough off the road. and get it towed to my mechanic and just left the scene (when my bud came to pick me up, we checked to see the lady i hit and she was fine)
later that night I ent up choking my gf and the pigs came and arrested me. When i was in a cell they came and moved me up to maximum security and when I asked why, they said "intoxication assault with a vehicle" and they hadn't even magistrated me on that charge, so I told my attorney what happened and he told them, "how can you charge mr. mcgregor with intoxication assault, when he was never apprehended and tested for intoxication?" and to boot, the lady , yeah sure she had my liscence plate, but she definitely didn't identify me.. hell my neighbor chicken, jessica could of borrowed my car.
