Whats the deal with adults who watch cartoons?

  1. #1
There are some cartoons, like south park, that joke about adult things, so it's funny to adults. But a lot of the adult swim type cartoons today (Bob's burgers, superjail, rick and morty, archer) don't even seem like they're meant to be funny. They're just cartoons, except they're marketed towards adults. I've tried to watch these shows and I just don't see any appeal to them. I don't get it.

Probably a societal cult thing (it's keewl to watch Bob's Burgers, mann). I have no idea. We watched a lot of cartoons in jail/prison as an escape I guess. Only cartoon I've ever really loved is Ren and Stimpy.

...you don't find archer funny? I think you might be autistic

I actually may be. What difference does it make though? It's just a measure of how different your personality is than the norm, in a certain way. There's nothing inherently worse about being autistic, except for the fact that it's more likely to be born non-autistic than it is autistic.

But yea, I don't really think archer is funny. It kind of is, in a sort of way that doesn't make me laugh. Like mildly amusing but not enough to really derive and pleasure from.

Doesn't this apply to all TV and media, not just cartoons?

If you think south park is funny but R&M or Archer don't measure up then you have the preferences of a 12 year old

I like john benjamin, but I've never understood the appeal of bobs burgers and archer. It's aimed towards adults and I know a lot of adults who watch it but really it seems like something that would appeal to mainly young teenagers.

It's full of "witty" one liners to attempt to be edgy, but deliver no creativity imo.

Superjail, was kinda dumb but It was so over the top and I liked the way it was drawn, reminded me of older cartoons like rocko's modern life. A lot of newer animation tends to look "nice" and "crisp" but lacks a soul and looks like the animators took the lazy way out.

A show I saw recently at my friends and she showed me this hbo cartoon "animals" which has a similar "herky jerky" motion style to it.
And bitchy/witty, back and forth jedi banter. And thats all it ever is... After watching like 4 episodes of (I only made it that far because I was stoned) I was like "woaah chicken, can we please watching something else?", and explained to her why I was kind of tired from watching it.

And she kinda agreed with me. And I've noticed a lot of these shows are mainly watched by girls in 20-early thirties range.

It's kinda fucked up that I'm only 29 and I feel like "baaack in my day! cartoons were real cartoons!" lol

I don't know if you guys remember my story about falling ass first naked through some girls glass coffee table, but the whole premise of me showing up to her place was because she said she was heavily into anime, and I was like oh cool I don't know a lot about anime, let me come watch some. I show up and she puts on Archer..

Heres a couple clips from animals. Can you see how this would get old real quick? I mean, It should of just been a youtube cartoon that girls would post on their facebook cause its cute and funny teehhee!!!11

But you know to each their own I guess. But on that note, I like some of rick and morty, but I avoided watching it for a long time until recently because I assumed it was like all those other shows. I've seen a few episodes now and I think It's a little more creative than most of whats out there.

I would say the inverse of that. South park has a lot of funny commentary on current issues and events. What is Archer? The whole joke is that he's a secret agent that parties and gets laid a lot and isn't that bright. I just don't really see the humor in that.

    Exactly.

I used to hate anime though but once I tripped on 4-aco-dmt and my friend started playing some and since then, I've really appreciated the art style of some of it. Although I still don't actually watch it.
