   so by the time your phone app tells you where the round is coming from, the bullet would already have struck long ago and the sniper would have been long gone to another position.

   
   Not true. I've known snipers in real life, not just read about them. They don't immediately move after firing a shot as that would reveal their location in many circumstances.
   
   Anyway like I said technology will always be better than* your natural ability to localize sounds.
