What product would increase the range of a wifi cameras range?

   There are WiFi boosters out there. They generally require an AC power supply (i.e. you have to plug them into a wall socket for power), but there might be battery powered ones out there... And if there aren't, you can always get creative.

   I'm actually super curious about the general "why" here...
   
   Simply because I am looking to do the exact same thing.
   
   My use case is to set up a DIY apartment building front door security cam so I can screen potential visitors before I let them in (old building... no such technology in place as is).

   Yeah just security, I think it'd be cool to leave it in the car and see whats going on outside in the parking lot, or lets say if I wanna grow some weed somewhere or something,you can see if anybodys coming in time and abort harvesting, even though its legal to grow here now you'd still probably get ticketed or something on somebody else's land.

   If you want REALLY long range... Like your farming example... I would go with battery powered WiFi range extenders. It might require some DIY wiring, but, if you're going to the lengths of growing entire crops of marijuana, you will almost certainly want to learn a bit about contemporary farming technologies like IOT and AI applications.
   
   My friend lives in an urban apartment on like the 10th floor and has a tiny closet "grow op", but he's got all these IOT sensors that detect things like humidity of the soil and so on, and send important notifications to his computer/cell-phone/email/etc.
   
   If you're going full farm scale, I'd definitely become well acquainted with such technologies.

   Aside from a directional antenna, there isn't much you can use that will accomplish this "without having to do anything".
   
   The data can be transmitted on a lower frequency though, and therefore a longer range frequency. You'll have to decode it once it's been picked up on the other side. It would be cheaper, but regardless of what you use, someone can zero in on the signal and find the "grow op" or whatever it is you're really doing.
   
   
   something like this would be more energy efficient if in a remote location, if you switch it to jpeg mode rather than streaming video.

   For a couple bucks you could set up some electrostatic charge detectors with FETs and have those as your motion detector, if passive infrared may be a problem. Probably won't though.
