The internet does weird things to people

He was giving advice on how to be happy and he said you should stop trying to control everything in the world and accept it as it is. I really started to notice that I do feel the need to control things a lot of the time, and that it's a waste of mental resources, because our grasp on the the world is weak and tenuous. Like if I see someone say something dumb on the internet, I have an emotional reaction to it. Not that I get sad or angry or my day is ruined, but I feel like I should tell them that what they think is stupid. But I most likely am not going to change that person's mind, because they're suffering from the same thing I am. The need for the world to be a certain way to make it simpler to understand. And when someone comes along and challenges that, it's like someone is trying to chip away at that facade I've built for the world. Hence the emotional reaction.
In real life, this isn't such a big deal because there's social pressure to be liked and not call everyone who disagrees with you a cunt in public. But on the internet, the shit runs wild. All you have to do is go on reddit and look for an argument in one of the top comments and you're sure to see hundreds of people willfully participating in the quest for control of the way things are. It would be different if it were legit debate or arguing, but it almost always devolves into shit-slinging, or thinly veiled shit slinging tried to pass off as an argument in a passive aggressive way. People start insulting other people and trying to bait them into arguments for no reason. It's very obvious that there is more to the story than just whatever political/religious/whatever argument they are trying to make. -
